The hotel did not provide water in the room. Upon asking the bar to actually purchase water I was told that wasn’t possible. Then upon asking the night manager at the front desk I was also lead to zero possibilities! I found out upon check out that there are water stations on each floor, however the hotel does not provide that information upon check in nor do they prodive a vessel to fill the water with. Complete fail. In the bathroom of my room, there was a bottle of hair conditioner in place of the soap dispenser- complete lack of detail. The bar service for a simple cup of coffee in the morning took 20 minutes (on my way to catch an Uber to the airport). Everything about my stay was unacceptable- which is disappointing because I have chosen this hotel over others for decades. Again, complete fail, I will never stay at Hotel Shattuck again.

We get to the room, which is a king with a view, and the ac is leaking blue liquid and the wallpaper is clearly covering bumps on the wall. Because this was for a special occasion, we asked to switch rooms. The front desk seemed annoyed about the request and didn't say anything. When I asked if it was a like-swap, they said yes, but when we got to the room, it was smaller. We read that someone's room out broken into on a review, and we also noticed that the door lock was old and looked like it wasnt going to keep us safe, especially in Berkeley. We decided to leave that night and check in somewhere else. Overall, did not feel safe or feel like the hotel was kept in good condition, and especially not for a special occasion.

First of all our rooms were not ready even though we had a 4 PM check out time. We were told they probably wouldn't be ready for another hour. The hotel did give us breakfast vouchers for the hassle so that's something. The walls are pretty damn thin, I could hear the TV room in the room next to me very easily. The biggest complaint of me and my colleagues is the barn doors on the bathrooms. Is there anybody on earth who likes barn doors? Especially ones with translucent glass? It gives no privacy.

Clean and comfortable, staff was very helpful and friendly. Convenient location in downtown, very short walk to UC theater. Breakfast was really good. We stayed here for a concert at UC theater which is a great venue, especially for someone in a wheelchair, great ADA spot. We will return to theater and will stay here again when we do.
